Du'a al-Nudba (Lamentation)

Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds, and may God bless our master Muhammad His Prophet and his family, and grant them abundant peace. O God, to You belongs praise for what Your decree has wrought upon Your chosen ones whom You selected for Yourself and Your religion, when You chose for them the abundance of what You possess of eternal bliss that knows no end or diminishment, after You stipulated upon them renunciation of the degrees of this lowly world, its adornments and its embellishments, and they accepted that condition from You, and You knew their faithfulness so You accepted them and drew them near. Where is al-Hasan? Where is al-Husayn? Where are the sons of al-Husayn? One righteous after another, one truthful after another. Where is the path after the path? Where is the chosen after the chosen? Where are the rising suns? Where are the illuminating moons? Where are the shining stars?
