His Supplication in the Morning and Evening

(6) وَ كَانَ مِنْ دُعَائِهِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عِنْدَ الصَّبَاحِ وَ الْمَسَاءِ 1. الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَ اللَّيْلَ وَ النَّهَارَ بِقُوَّتِهِ 2. وَ مَيَّزَ بَيْنَهُمَا بِقُدْرَتِهِ 3. وَ جَعَلَ لِكُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا حَدّاً مَحْدُوداً ، وَ أَمَداً مَمْدُوداً 4. يُولِجُ كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا فِي صَاحِبِهِ ، وَ يُولِجُ صَاحِبَهُ فِيهِ بِتَقْدِيرٍ مِنْهُ لِلْعِبَادِ فِيمَا يَغْذُوهُمْ بِهِ ، وَ يُنْشِئُهُمْ عَلَيْهِ 5. فَخَلَقَ لَهُمُ اللَّيْلَ لِيَسْكُنُوا فِيهِ مِنْ حَرَكَاتِ التَّعَبِ وَ نَهَضَاتِ النَّصَبِ ، وَ جَعَلَهُ لِبَاساً لِيَلْبَسُوا مِنْ رَاحَتِهِ وَ مَنَامِهِ ، فَيَكُونَ ذَلِكَ لَهُمْ جَمَاماً وَ قُوَّةً ، وَ لِيَنَالُوا بِهِ لَذَّةً وَ شَهْوَةً 6. وَ خَلَقَ لَهُمُ النَّهَارَ مُبْصِراً لِيَبْتَغُوا فِيهِ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ ، وَ لِيَتَسَبَّبُوا إِلَى رِزْقِهِ ، وَ يَسْرَحُوا فِي أَرْضِهِ ، طَلَباً لِمَا فِيهِ نَيْلُ الْعَاجِلِ مِنْ دُنْيَاهُمْ ، وَ دَرَكُ الْآجِلِ فِي أُخْرَاهُمْ 7. بِكُلِّ ذَلِكَ يُصْلِحُ شَأْنَهُمْ ، وَ يَبْلُو أَخْبَارَهُمْ ، وَ يَنْظُرُ كَيْفَ هُمْ فِي أَوْقَاتِ طَاعَتِهِ ، وَ مَنَازِلِ فُرُوضِهِ ، وَ مَوَاقِعِ أَحْكَامِهِ ، لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَسَاءُوا بِمَا عَمِلُوا ، وَ يَجْزِيَ الَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا بِالْحُسْنَى. 8. اللَّهُمَّ فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ عَلَى مَا فَلَقْتَ لَنَا مِنَ الْإِصْبَاحِ ، وَ مَتَّعْتَنَا بِهِ مِنْ ضَوْءِ النَّهَارِ ، وَ بَصَّرْتَنَا مِنْ مَطَالِبِ الْأَقْوَاتِ ، وَ وَقَيْتَنَا فِيهِ مِنْ طَوَارِقِ الْآفَاتِ. 9. أَصْبَحْنَا وَ أَصْبَحَتِ الْأَشْيَاءُ كُلُّهَا بِجُمْلَتِهَا لَكَ سَمَاؤُهَا وَ أَرْضُهَا ، وَ مَا بَثَثْتَ فِي كُلِّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا ، سَاكِنُهُ وَ مُتَحَرِّكُهُ ، وَ مُقِيمُهُ وَ شَاخِصُهُ وَ مَا عَلَا فِي الْهَوَاءِ ، وَ مَا كَنَّ تَحْتَ الثَّرَى 10. أَصْبَحْنَا فِي قَبْضَتِكَ يَحْوِينَا مُلْكُكَ وَ سُلْطَانُكَ ، وَ تَضُمُّنَا مَشِيَّتُكَ ، وَ نَتَصَرَّفُ عَنْ أَمْرِكَ ، وَ نَتَقَلَّبُ فِي تَدْبِيرِكَ. 11. لَيْسَ لَنَا مِنَ الْأَمْرِ إِلَّا مَا قَضَيْتَ ، وَ لَا مِنَ الْخَيْرِ إِلَّا مَا أَعْطَيْتَ. 12. وَ هَذَا يَوْمٌ حَادِثٌ جَدِيدٌ ، وَ هُوَ عَلَيْنَا شَاهِدٌ عَتِيدٌ ، إِنْ أَحْسَنَّا وَدَّعَنَا بِحَمْدٍ ، وَ إِنْ أَسَأْنَا فَارَقَنَا بِذَمٍّ. 13. اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِهِ ، وَ ارْزُقْنَا حُسْنَ مُصَاحَبَتِهِ ، وَ اعْصِمْنَا مِنْ سُوءِ مُفَارَقَتِهِ بِارْتِكَابِ جَرِيرَةٍ ، أَوِ اقْتِرَافِ صَغِيرَةٍ أَوْ كَبِيرَةٍ 14. وَ أَجْزِلْ لَنَا فِيهِ مِنَ الْحَسَنَاتِ ، وَ أَخْلِنَا فِيهِ مِنَ السَّيِّئَاتِ ، وَ امْلَأْ لَنَا مَا بَيْنَ طَرَفَيْهِ حَمْداً وَ شُكْراً وَ أَجْراً وَ ذُخْراً وَ فَضْلًا وَ إِحْسَاناً. 15. اللَّهُمَّ يَسِّرْ عَلَى الْكِرَامِ الْكَاتِ
1- Praise belongs to God, who created night and day through His strength, 2- set them apart through His power, 3- and appointed for eacha determined limitand a drawn-out period. 4- He makes each of the two enter into its companion, and makes its companion enter into it, as an ordainment from Him for His servantsin that through which He feeds themand with which He makes them grow. 5- He created for them the night, that they might rest in it1from tiring movements and wearisome exertionsand He made it a garment for them that they might be clothed in its ease and its sleep, that it might be for them refreshment and strength, that they might reach therein pleasure and passion. 6- He created for them thedaytime, giving sight, that they might seekwithin it of Hisbounty, 2find the means to His provision, and roam freely in His earth, searching for that through whichto attain the immediate in their life in this worldand to achieve the deferred in their life to come. 7-Through all of this He sets right their situation, tries their records, 3and watches their state in the times for obeying Him, the waystations of His obligations, and the places of His ordinances, that He may repay those who do evil with what they have doneand repay those who do good with goodness. 4 8- O God, to Thee belongs praise for the sky Thou hast split into dawn for us, 5giving us to enjoy thereby the brightness of daytime, showing us sought-after nourishments, and protecting us from the striking of blights. 9- In the morning we and all things, every one, rise for Thee, the heaven and the earthand what Thou hast scattered in each, the still and the moving, the resident and the journeying, what towers up in the air and what hides under the ground. 10- We rise in the morning in Thy grasp: Thy kingdom and authority contain usand Thy will embraces us. We move about by Thy commandand turn this way and that through Thy governing. 11- We own nothing of the affairexcept what Thou hast decreedand nothing of the goodexcept what Thou hast given. 12- This is a fresh, new day, over us a ready witness. If we do good, it will take leave from us with praise, and if we do evil, it will part from us in blame. 13- O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, provide us with the day's good companionshipand preserve us against parting from it badlyby doing a misdeedor committing a sin, whether small or great! 14- Make our good deeds within it plentifulempty us therein of evil deeds, and fill what lies between its two sides for uswith praise and thanksgiving, wages and stores, bounty and beneficence! 15- O God, ease our burden on the Noble
